onde nenhum homem esteve antes.

Deep Into the Emptiness of an Ocean of Stars

deep into the emptiness of an ocean of stars
sailors of USS Zupp1 seek the answers
not because they can
but because they will
and as they approach the certain unknown
an anxious certainty becomes a flag
they will place their mark in history
because they are
where no man has been before

Leitura do poema

Reading the Poem

The poem transforms the cosmos into an ocean and the ship’s travelers into sailors on a voyage without known shores. They seek answers “not because they can, but because they will”: exploration arises less from ability than from a will that has already become destiny. Emptiness, then, does not represent absence, but the expanse where courage encounters something that has not yet been named.

The image of “an anxious certainty” becoming a flag brings fear and conviction together in the same gesture. The sailors move forward knowing that the unknown is inevitable, and it is precisely this tension that allows them to leave their mark on history. To be where no one has gone before is not merely to reach a distant place; it is to cross the boundary of the possible and make the voyage itself a human testament.
