Ilustração do poema “Saiba”

Saiba

português

Saiba

Não pense,
saiba.
Não tenha esperança,
saiba.
Não espere,
saiba.
Não seja outro
além de quem você é.

Pois você sabe
que você é
o que você é,
e sendo
o que você é,
você sabe.

Know

Don't think,
know.
Don't hope,
know.
Don't expect,
know.
Don't be other
than you are.

As you know,
that you are,
what you are,
and being
what you are,
you know.

Leitura do poema

O aparente paradoxo é o centro do poema.

Reading the Poem

The poem replaces three movements of uncertainty—thinking, hoping, and expecting—with a single command: “know.” Its repetition becomes a call to inner certainty. The speaker does not ask anyone to become someone else, but to leave hesitation behind and recognize what already exists within.

In the second stanza, the verb “to be” folds back upon itself until it forms a circle: knowing who you are, being what you are, and therefore knowing. That apparent paradox is the poem’s center. The deepest knowledge does not come from imagining a future identity, but from fully inhabiting the present one.
