Guerreiro Valente
como um bravo guerreiro
meu dente perdeu uma batalha,
quebrado,
infectado,
e ainda assim
sobreviveu.
talvez não um guerreiro,
como antes,
mas ainda valente,
para impedir que o capitão
sofresse
durante o nascimento
de novas ideias.
Brave Warrior
as a brave warrior
my tooth lost a battle,
broken,
infected,
and yet
survived.
maybe not a warrior,
as before,
but still brave,
to keep the captain
from suffering
through the birth
of new ideas.
Leitura do poema
Reading the Poem
In “Brave Warrior,” an injured tooth is given the dignity of a fighter. The comparison brings humor and tenderness to an experience of pain: broken and infected, it loses a battle yet continues to serve. The body becomes more than matter and turns into a crew, with warriors and a captain who must pass through a difficult moment together.
The second stanza recognizes that survival does not always mean becoming what one was before. The warrior may be changed and still keep its courage. By protecting the captain through the birth of new ideas, the tooth also takes part in the poet’s creative life. The poem discovers heroism in a small and imperfect part of the body, reminding us that bravery can live precisely in what remains, endures, and continues to help despite its wounds.
