As Estrelas Gritam Tão Depressa
As estrelas gritam tão depressa,
Sim, o navio chora,
de felicidade,
de orgulho,
de beleza,
por causa de seu desafio,
por causa de sua viagem,
e, acima de tudo, o navio chora
por causa de sua tripulação,
reunida pelo destino,
irmandada por uma causa.
Stars Shout So Fast
stars shout so fast
as mind vision was last
air fresh from the window
of USS Zupp1 fills with tears
Yes, the ship cries
of happiness
of pride
of beauty
because of it's challenge
because of it's voyage
and mainly the ship cries
because of it's crew
assembled from fate
brothered by cause
Leitura do poema
Reading the Poem
In this poem, space is not silent. The stars “shout” with such intensity that they seem to reach the final limit of inner vision. The universe ceases to be merely a distant landscape and becomes an emotional experience: the air entering through the ship’s window carries tears, as though the voyage itself already understood the magnitude of what is being lived.
When the ship cries, it borrows its humanity from the crew. Its tears gather happiness, pride, beauty, and the weight of the challenge, yet the deepest emotion comes from the travelers joined by fate and “brothered by a cause.” The ship becomes the collective body of that union: it carries not only people through the cosmos, but also the memory of shared courage.
